6) Ford F-150 Raptor
The Raptor is the more powerful off-road performance version of Ford’s iconic pickup, the F-150. US retail prices start from $48,860.
The Raptor’s new motor is a twin-turbo, intercooled DOHC 24 valve, 3.5-litre engine with direct fuel injection. It delivers 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. That power transmits to all four wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission with manual shifting mode. The driver can select from six modes, including ‘street’, ‘mud’ and ‘sand’, to maximize performance depending on the road conditions.
The Raptor is made from strong, military-grade, aluminum alloy, which makes it almost 500 pounds lighter than its previous generation. Its high strength, boxed steel frame forms the strong and rigid skeleton for its lightweight body.
The new Raptor now also features something called ‘torque-on-demand’, which manages the distribution of power between the front and rear wheels while driving in four-wheel-drive mode. Built for off road performance, the vehicle sports 3.0 inch shocks with variable damping rates based on wheel travel.
