3) GMC Sierra 2500HD
HD stands for heavy duty. The Sierra 2500HD retails in the US starting from $33,990. The standard engine in this truck is the Vortec 6.0 litre with variable valve timing, capable of producing 360 hp @ 5400 rpm and 380 lb-ft of torque @ 4200 rpm. The engine can also run on E85, which is 85% ethanol bio fuel. The 2500HD’s powerful engine optimizes high end power and low end torque.
Another standard feature is the truck’s automatic locking gear differential. The transmission senses differences in the spin of both rear wheels and automatically engages the diff lock when the variance exceeds 100 rpm.
The truck is available in 4WD and 2WD variants. Also available is an electronically controlled 6-speed gearbox optimized for tow/haul mode and engine breaking with heavy loads. This feature is only available with the 6.6 litre turbo-diesel V8 engine.
Available engine exhaust braking controls the variable vanes in the turbocharger to efficiently create additional engine back pressure to slow the truck down.
