4) Volkswagen Golf SportWagen
The new Golf SportWagen packs a 170 hp, 1.8 litre TSI engine with a claimed city fuel economy of 25 mpg and more than enough power to boot. Retail prices start at $21,580 in the US.
Available 4Motion all-wheel-drive system distributes torque between the front and rear wheels. Normally an FWD car, the SportWagen can become an AWD when needed, while equipped with 4Motion. Another nice optional is the Tiptronic transmission with sport mode. This functionality lets the driver change gears with quick taps of the wheel-mounted shifter for a spirited drive.
Interior comforts include an optional 12-way power adjustable driver’s seat. Available safety features consist of VW front assist which incorporates front-mounted sensors that monitor traffic and alert the driver to critical events ahead. Autonomous emergency braking can also kick-in when needed. The car’s intelligent crash response system (ICRS) and a rigid safety cage featuring front and rear crumple zones improve safety.
